Don't Make the Bed

I waited up for you,

but I'm tired of waiting for anyone.

I imagined us awake

laughing at some stupid pun--

or you playing with my hair

even though I hate it.

I can't be in love with you.

I can't be in love with me either.

I waited up for you,

even if you can't write a song about me,

I wrote this poem anyway,

it might be a song.

Fuck all ideas of exploitation.

I didn't make the bed

because I wondered what you

would look like in it,

it's fucking with my head,

Like being tangled in the top sheet.

I can't be in love with you.

You can't be in love with me either.
