Ring Pop Promises

Children writing vows
tossing flower petals between
chairs full of teddy bears
and barbie dolls.
For the limerick I chose
purple crayon.
Yours was
a drawing of a dinosaur.
The officiate licked your face
then ran off to some other
innocent venture
wagging his tail.
That's OK,
these ring-pop promises
can be made anyway--
I say, "I do,"
and lick your face.
You exclaim, "ew!"
then run off to some other
mischievous venture
wagging your tail.
Beady black eyes stare,
blankly,
attempting to fill the void
where you stood.
I lick the strawberry diamond.
'Til death do us part,
or part of us dies,
or nap time.
