Marble Elephants

Miniature marble elephants

on window sills, watching

inanimate gaze

frozen

frantically filing thoughts

of watered down coffee

and six a.m. Saturdays 

suffocating behind water-droplet framed 

window panes, 

drowning in dishwater,

voice lost beneath the hum 

of a water heater,

lingering bare feet on 

barren linoleum.
