The Other Side of the Meadow

I see

the other side of the meadow

through tick-infested tall grass,

swarming with mosquitoes,

riddled with burs,

beyond hoards of poison ivy,

perilous.

I am unprepared

using safety scissors to

wade through weeds,

grass grazes my skin

slicing through it like it's jelly.

Maybe, it is

and I am going to melt

into a sticky strawberry puddle

and become a meal for the ants.
