The Way I Feel

The way I feel things

is like tin-foil in an 1100 watt microwave,

endlessly,

like sticking a fork in a toaster,

while in a bathtub,

I light my feelings using paint thinner

in a dry forest with a cigarette,

Smokey the Bear bolts when he sees me.

When I feel....things,

I am cranking the volume dial to the max

as quickly as I can

with my ear suction-cupped directly to the speaker.

My emotions are twelve lions

sauntering toward one lonely zebra,

or just as comparably...

that scene in the Lion King where Mufasa

falls to his death in a raging stampede,

I feel things

like that stampede,

bursting through your local department store window

on an average Tuesday,

Like an exploding pink and orange sunset

on LSD,

on mushrooms,

on steroids,

My feelings are

twenty lightning bolts striking the same tree

in a row,

they are a tsunami

barrelling toward an advanced civilization,

they are sinking Atlantis.

If they were a story they would be

Alice in Wonderland

meets Eraserhead,

when you're done watching you have no idea

what any of it really means,

you're left dizzy and dazed

more than a little confused

my feelings are simultaneously popping

1000 balloons using dynamite,

deafening, terrifying, draining,

they are running a marathon

every day for a week straight

or fighting a grizzly bear...

barehanded....

If I could collect my feelings

it would look like a mosaic of little

shards of glass

so sharp they'd leave tiny puncture holes

on my fingertips

my feelings are an awakening

an ayahausca trip,

violent and clarifying,

they are a volcano, erupting

spewing magma over the water

forming new land,

they are a seed, sprouting

birthing new life onto this Earth,

feeding the hungry and providing the air

I breathe.
